Monique Scol is not from the region, but Montbéliard became her adopted city since autumn 1987. Recruited at the Center for Cultural Action, she learned the ins and outs of the trade from great directors for nearly 17 years, a formative period that sealed her fate with the territory: “For 17 years, I worked closely with the directors and learned a lot, I loved it.”
After leading the MALS in Sochaux, nicknamed “The Great Lady”, where she managed nearly 50 curtain calls per season, she now dedicates herself to bringing culture out of the halls. Through festivals like Château en Scène or Les Quatre Saisons, she focuses on accessibility and artistic education for all audiences. For her, choosing artists is a constant quest for excellence: “We don’t choose for ourselves, we choose for a broad audience that we want to satisfy.”
Today, as head of the Simone Veil Cultural Center, Monique Scol maintains an intact freshness and curiosity. Her journey, marked by encounters and challenges, remains guided by a deep love for artists and their ability to surprise. She sees art as an essential tool for youth development: “It allows us to grow with good intelligence, it’s important to educate artistically and to open up.”
