Cleveland Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson was excited to finally hold a practice after the All-Star break with newly acquired player James Harden. Atkinson emphasized simplifying their approach and focusing on the essentials to build their game gradually.

Harden, who had only participated in film sessions and walk-throughs before, quickly adapted to the team and displayed impressive stats, averaging 19.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 8.7 assists with two double-doubles in his first games with the Cavaliers.

Teammate Jaylon Tyson praised Harden’s defensive skills, highlighting his contribution on that end of the court. All-star guard Donovan Mitchell acknowledged the adjustment period with Harden but expressed optimism about developing their chemistry as a duo on the court.

The Cavaliers focused on defense during practice, addressing their 3-point defense, which is among the league’s weakest. Veterans were given a refresher on tactics from training camp, while newcomers like Harden, Dennis Schroeder, and Keon Ellis were brought up to speed.

There is a possibility of Evan Mobley and Dean Wade returning to the lineup soon after dealing with injuries. Despite these challenges, the Cavaliers have thrived with Harden, winning all three games with him. They are also on a five-game winning streak and boast an outstanding winning percentage since late December, positioning them well in the Eastern Conference standings.

Cleveland faces a tough schedule ahead, with five games in seven days including matchups against Brooklyn, Oklahoma City, and the New York Knicks. Mitchell stressed the importance of staying focused and prepared for this challenging stretch of games.
