Municipal elections 2026 in Tours: candidates proposals on culture

    Until March 10, 2026, La Nouvelle République unveils the candidates’ proposals for the municipal elections in Tours. In total, nine themes will be addressed. For this eighth installment, the candidates express their views on the topic of culture.

    Claire Delore, head of the list “Tours pour les travailleurs et les jeunes” (Party of Workers):
    “The struggle of the musicians from the symphony orchestra of the Tours Opera, with their union, to obtain full-time permanent jobs and the development of symphonic programming within the public service is exemplary and has received broad support from the population, the public. It took several strikes over three years to be heard.
    This forced the municipality to do what it should have done from the start: seek funding to move away from precarious jobs and develop the public service (symphonic). We hope that the musicians will actually have a full-time permanent contract, as promised by the municipality during the last council meeting. It was about time! Stay tuned.
    The cost of a single Rafale is equivalent to that of a fifty-member full-time symphony orchestra for twenty years! War budgets threaten culture. The investment budget for museums has decreased by 42% in two years. While cultural associations cannot find free venues, the halls floors have been vacant for five years. The absence of buses after 8 p.m. on several lines excludes some neighborhoods. Culture must connect the inhabitants….
