On March 8, 2026, theaters, museums, cinemas, and festivals everywhere are celebrating women’s creativity, questioning inequality, and raising awareness about sexist violence. The DRAC Normandie is supporting an inclusive and dynamic cultural ecosystem.
Heritage: Women’s gestures and stories
In museums and heritage sites, the history of women is revealed with strength and sensitivity. At the Museum of Art and History in Saint-Lô, the exhibition “Au fil des gestes: métiers de femmes” highlights female craftsmanship, from artisanal work to everyday gestures. The Falaise Memorial presents the exhibition “Femmes en guerre – Engagements et désillusions” (March 7, 2026 – January 3, 2027), shedding light on the central role of women during World War II.
At Le Havre, the Witness Apartment Perret offers a guided visit “Femmes des Trente Glorieuses – Retour au foyer!” on March 8 at 2:30 pm. Libraries and media libraries complement this program with readings and workshops on inspiring journeys.
In Caen, the Museum of Fine Arts invites the public to decipher representations of women in art history through meetings and guided tours, providing a space for reflection on stereotypes and symbolic violences in collections.
Artistic creation: theater, music, and visual arts
The theater becomes a mirror and an experimental ground. The CDN – Normandie, led by Camille Trouvé and Brice Berthoud, offers a traveling show, “Le Cri Quotidien,” on March 8 at 4:30 pm, where daily life transforms into a living theater.
In Caen, from March 3 to 5, the Italian adaptation of “L’Avare” revisits the classic through a feminine perspective, entirely sung and set to music by Francesco Gasparini. The Avranches theater welcomes “Julie Duval for l’odeur de la guerre,” a one-woman show that traces a woman’s history and childhood.
In Alençon, the Ouranies company presents a sound and musical reading, blending archive projections and texts by authors like Marguerite Duras or Geneviève De Gaulle-Anthonioz.
In Deauville, Les Franciscaines celebrate women with the “Normandes en tête 2026” season, offering a rich program that brings together art, creativity, and commitment. On the occasion of International Women’s Rights Day, the initiative highlights inspiring journeys and values women’s ability to dare, excel, and create.
The content continues with various events in Rouen, Dieppe, and Granville, showcasing the mobilization of the cultural sector to promote gender equality and women’s representation.
