She has covered all the files: opponent to Christian Estrosi in the municipal and metropolitan council, Juliette Chesnel Le Roux now sees herself as the future mayor of Nice. A professional engineer deeply attached to her city, where she has lived for 40 years. For the 2026 municipal elections, she has managed to form an alliance with three major left-wing parties: the Communist Party, the Socialist Party, and The Ecologists, from which she originates. Additionally, the movements L’Après, Debout, the socialist republican left, and Génération Écologie are also on board. But there is a key player missing from the class photo: La France Insoumise. What’s the hold-up? “The national policy of LFI in which I absolutely do not see any local contradictions” summarizes Juliette Chesnel Le Roux. No alliance in the second round? “Unless Mrs. Damiano reacts and condemns the statements” from LFI regarding the Epstein case. From now on, the candidate of the United for Nice list wants that if Christian Estrosi ends up behind Éric Ciotti on the evening of the first round, he withdraws: “it would be a real republican barrier“.

    Purchasing Power

In a city where rents are among the highest in France, after Paris, Juliette Chesnel Le Roux wants to give residents some breathing space. “To make the first 12 cubic meters of water free for everyone and then implement a fair progressive pricing system” is on the list “because a progressive pricing system is a necessity“. But it’s also about “providing compensation for large families“. The tiers? “12, then 60, then 120, which means that heavy users, those who fill their pool with city water, will pay more“.

When it comes to purchasing power, the price of the canteen is also a concern: “We want to set the minimum rate for families in difficulty at zero because if you have three children, in a family that is in great difficulty, 36 euros per month is a lot of money“. A “budgeted” measure, assures the candidate, who wants “the same thing for recreation centers, leisure centers, and AnimaNice“.

    Transport

We did the math” says Juliette Chesnel Le Roux. “Today, making transport free for most Niçois would amount to 44 million euros. The overall ticket budget for the entire metropolis is 75 million euros. The Niçois share is about 61% of the population“. How to fund this free transport? “just an example” clarifies the candidate, “the communication service of the city of Nice costs 30 million euros. I’m not saying we should stop communicating. But we could free up 10 million euros“. The rest? “We made a list of all the management problems that cost money each year“. Juliette Chesnel Le Roux does not rule out part of the funding coming from an increase in the tourist tax. “For the most expensive prices, a room at 1,000 euros, you only pay 4.90 euros, there is room to at least reach the legal limit“.

Pedestrian streets in front of schools

Juliette Chesnel Le Roux wants to test the pedestrianization of certain axes “when it improves the quality of life and the safety of travel“. Which streets are concerned? “The surroundings of schools, not all of them because if it’s not possible, we want to create 30 zones“. Why? “To reduce air pollution, as well as noise pollution“. Juliette Chesnel Le Roux also wants to redo sidewalks and roads like the top of Boulevard Gambetta. “The other day, I saw a bike almost fall because there are holes“. As for bikes… The bike plan “has been implemented bit by bit” according to the candidate for the United for Nice list who wants to enforce the Mobility Law “which says that when a road is redone, space must be made for the bike and the mayor did not do it on Jeanne d’Arc, Boulevard de Riquier, or Risso“.

    The return of rent control?

Rent control lasted less than 24 hours in Nice. The United for Nice list sees it as an opportunity to “contain the explosion of rents“. Another project: to assist the owners of the 5000 housing units vacant for more than two years and less than eight years to put them up for rent. In case of refusal, “we will buy the property if they do not want to participate“. As for social housing? “We need diversity. The figures for access to social housing indicate that 70% of Niçois would be eligible for social housing. It’s housing for everyone“.

    Culture

The United for Nice list wants to end the privatization of the carnival or the Nice Jazz Fest. The latter could return to Cimiez: “this must also be discussed with the neighborhood committee“. Juliette Chesnel Le Roux also wants to see music practice spaces emerge.

    Environment

The Nice Airport is at the heart of the program. The new terminal will remain in place “for the comfort of passengers” but a firm no to the “additional 80 flights per day landing and taking off“. The candidate from the united left and the ecologists also wants a nighttime curfew. “No more flights after 11 pm and no flights before 6 am“, all with a “progressive closure of the private jet aerodrome” which has “no benefit“.
