The United States has praised the Nigerian government for its strong commitment to expediting trials of suspects linked to terrorism and related crimes. The US applauded the convictions of 386 Islamist militants in a statement posted on Sunday by Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President on Arab and African Affairs. The US sees this as an important step towards accountability and justice. Boulos emphasized the importance of timely and transparent legal processes in combating extremism and building public trust in the judicial system. Nigeria recently sentenced several individuals associated with Boko Haram to prison terms ranging from 10 to 40 years as part of ongoing efforts to address terrorism threats, particularly in the North-East region. These prosecutions are being managed by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, to expedite terrorism-related cases and enhance accountability.
