Meetings, exhibitions, and workshops will be held to honor Japan this Saturday at the Antibes media library.
After the first edition of this event in 2023, dedicated to vinyl, followed by a second edition on gaming and the fantasy universe, the Land of the Rising Sun was ultimately chosen for this fourth edition.
“This year, we were considering the rising popularity of Asian countries. We wanted to delve deeply into the culture of a particular country, and Japan was unanimously chosen,” said Julien Elkaim, deputy to the media library manager.
Seven months and about forty agents later, the event will also include music performances.
“We will host the Iris ensemble – consisting of a soprano, a keyboard, and a harpist – for two concerts: one of traditional Japanese music, and a more modern one, including music from all types of animals,” Elkaim added.
Free and open to all
Throughout the day, fifteen creative workshops will be held on the four floors of the media library.
“From origami to pixel art, including drawing workshops, creating furin – a small traditional Japanese bell, etc.,” as Elkaim described the variety of activities.
The goal is to involve everyone, without registration or cost, for both children and adults.
While the first floor will focus on games, the second floor will also feature drawing workshops, an exhibition of bonsai, and explanations on their cultivation.
The third floor will be open to visitors and students, offering the screening of about ten animations and three tea ceremony sessions.
For sports enthusiasts, demonstrations of various martial arts, including aikibudo and karate, will take place.
Three encounters will also engage visitors: “From drawing with Camille Moulin-Dupré, to manga translation with Miyako Slocombe, and publishing with the founder of Éditions du Lézard Noir, Stéphane Duval,” Elkaim detailed.
A full day awaits, inviting attendees to explore a new culture and travel just steps away from home.
