The toll from Israeli strikes in Lebanon is rising. The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on Thursday, April 9, that the attacks carried out the day before by the Israeli army throughout the country had killed over 303 people and injured 1,150. It specified that the cumulative toll since the start of the war between Israel and Hezbollah on March 2 now stands at 1,888 dead and 6,092 injured.
The search for bodies under the rubble “is continuing in several places, in addition to the identification of many martyrs,” added the Lebanese Ministry of Health, emphasizing that the death toll could still increase. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army declared that four of its soldiers were killed in the Israeli strikes on Wednesday. One of them was stationed in Saïda in the south, while the other three, killed in the northeast of the country, were not on duty.
The army, which is not involved in the conflict, has now lost 14 soldiers in Israeli attacks, including two on duty. The General Directorate of General Security of Lebanon also announced the death of one of its agents during these attacks.
Elise Lesieur, Director of International Operations at Médecins du Monde, warns about the fifty health facilities that have been affected since March 2. “Hospitals are overwhelmed and struggling to respond to the influx of patients,” she explains on Franceinfo. The NGO also mentions the deaths of medical personnel. “Dozens of people, healthcare workers, have been killed.”
