Iran has not yet revealed who will represent the country in talks with the US this weekend. The delegation from the US will be led by Vice President JD Vance, Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner.

Recent US-Israeli strikes have targeted and killed several top officials in the Iranian regime, including those who played important roles in past negotiations and the former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Three Iranian officials who could potentially represent Tehran in talks in Pakistan are Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Abbas Araghchi, and Masoud Pezeshkian.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian parliament and former Tehran mayor, has been a key figure in discussions with the Trump administration. He has a history of suppressing dissent and is closely tied to the regime.

Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign affairs minister since 2024, is a career diplomat known for his tough yet pragmatic approach in negotiations with the West. Despite engaging with the US, he remains a loyal defender of the regime.

Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran’s second-highest ranking official and head of government, has pushed for political and social reforms in Iran but ultimately remains loyal to the regime. He recently questioned the American people about the benefits of the ongoing conflict.
