Vincent Müller, regional president of the Association for the Development of German Teaching in France (Adeaf), and Pauline Rumelhart, cinema manager of the Cordeliers theaters, are staying the course. This sixteenth fortnight promises to be substantial, with nine recent films, including three premieres, special evenings with speakers, and friendly moments to view, debate, and exchange ideas on historical and sociological subjects.

    Carte blanche and premieres
The traditional “Stammtisch” (the table) event, which involves exchanges in German among participants, will take place on March 4th, and the twinning committee will offer light snacks in front of the cinema on both weekends.

The fortnight will feature “Une enfance allemande – île d’Amrum, 1945” [A German Childhood – Amrum Island, 1945], the latest film by Fatih Akın, which depicts the end of World War II on a small German island as seen through the eyes of a child, at a time when lies unravel, and the future collapses. The film’s photography and the performance by young actor Jasper Billerbeck have been praised by critics. Louise Dumas, a specialist in German culture, will present and analyze the film and interact with the audience during the opening session tonight.

“En première ligne” [On the Frontline] by Petra Biondina Volpe portrays a nurse facing understaffing in her hospital department. This film will be presented as a “carte blanche” by students from the cinema club at Jean-Michel high school on March 3rd, followed by a discussion on healthcare worker health in the presence of hospital staff on March 6th.

    A very affordable rate
“L’étage secret, Bad Gastein” by Norbert Lechner is a film suitable for family viewing (from age 10 onwards). A young boy travels back in time to 1938, trying to solve a criminal case. It won the Children’s Jury Prize at the Mon Premier festival in Paris in 2025. This film, presented as a premiere on March 5th, will be introduced by sociologist Hans Herth.

With films scheduled in the evenings and during the day, and a very affordable rate (4.50 euros per session), this festival allows for a genuine discovery of contemporary German cinema in all its aspects. Watch without moderation!
