Ceasefire between Iran and the United States: It is a defeat for the United States, Donald Trump cracked in the showdown, General Vincent Desportes asserts

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, who had promised to annihilate an entire civilization, has finally reached a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran in exchange for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. More in-depth talks are now set to take place in Pakistan, which plays a mediator role in the conflict. The issue of Iranian nuclear weapons is expected to be a central focus of the negotiations to maintain the ceasefire.

In a statement titled “Donald Trump caught in a vice,” General Vincent Desportes, a former director of the War School, analyzed that Trump found himself in a trap due to the failure of military pressure and opposition from the public. The war initiated by Israel and the United States on February 28 is reported to have cost between 22 and 31 billion dollars to the U.S. Without achieving the collapse of the regime or seizing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, the United States is seen as facing a defeat according to General Desportes.

Despite the ceasefire announcement with Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly clarified that the war against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon is not covered by the truce. Desportes pointed out the endless nature of the situation in Lebanon and the difficulty in significantly impacting Hezbollah. There is skepticism about a quick de-escalation in Lebanon due to a shift towards a world where force trumps law.

The fragile ceasefire situation may reveal a potential divergence between the U.S. and Israel, where Israel perceives the war as ongoing as long as the regime in Iran persists. The failure to push Iran to concede should deter the U.S. from resuming hostilities. Desportes emphasized the need to transform force into political results through strategic planning.

General Desportes stated that the U.S. has “lost face” and that Europeans should enhance their defense autonomy. He credited the release of two French hostages to the differing views on Iran between Paris and Washington. Desportes suggested that Iran’s actions may indicate an understanding of European positions distinct from those of the United States.
