It has been 1,500 days, four years, since the war broke out in Ukraine. Images of devastation have been present from the very beginning. Moscow still carries out bombings, especially in the east of the country and in Kiev. A large drone attack by Russia hit Ukraine from Friday night to Saturday, causing five deaths and 19 injuries in a market in Nikopol, according to local authorities.
According to data from the Institute for the Study of War, the over 1,000 km front line has not significantly changed in the past month. Russia has not gained any territory in Ukraine in March 2026. There have even been some retreats, which have not happened since 2023 in some sectors.
Ukrainian counter-offensives are becoming more effective, and Russia is unable to use Starlink terminals, fast satellites less access to the encrypted messaging app Telegram, widely used on the front lines by Russian soldiers. However, Moscow still controls about 19% of Ukrainian territory, most of which was acquired in the initial weeks of the conflict.
