Chicago’s iconic doom metal band Trouble is set to headline the second night of the Legions of Metal festival at Reggies on Saturday, May 2. This marks the band’s first appearance at the renowned Chicago rock club. The festival, first conceived in 2017 by Reggies owner Robby Glick, Shane Merrill, and Robert Byrne, has become a staple for metal bands and fans alike. Byrne states that the festival aims to showcase a mix of classic and new bands to support emerging talent in the metal scene.
The opening night of the festival will feature Italian power metal band Rhapsody of Fire as headliners, along with several other metal bands like Omen, Owlbear, and Luminator. On the following night, Trouble will take the stage alongside other bands such as Heathen, Lords of the Trident, and Fires in the Distance.
Known for their distinctive sound influenced by bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, Trouble has been a mainstay in the metal scene since their formation in 1978. The band’s lineup currently includes original guitarists Rick Wartell and Bruce Franklin, vocalist Kyle Thomas, bassist Rob Hultz, and drummer Garry Naples.
In recent years, Trouble has continued to celebrate their diverse sound, paying tribute to their roots in doom metal. The band’s history includes milestones like signing with Metal Blade Records and releasing albums like their self-titled debut and ‘The Skull.’ Despite lineup changes over the years, Trouble has remained a pillar in the metal community, captivating audiences with their unique blend of heavy and melodic sounds.
