Iran accuses Washington of preparing a ground attack in the second month of war

In Tehran, a series of explosions were heard on Sunday evening, according to an AFP journalist. The Iranian Ministry of Energy reported power outages in the capital and its region after “attacks” on electrical installations.

Israel, which announced new salvos in the evening against various targets in Iran, reported an “impact of missile debris” in an industrial complex in the south of its territory, targeted by shots from the Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic.

Iran continues its strikes in retaliation against American and economic interests in the Gulf.

In Kuwait, a building of a desalination plant, which also generates electricity, was hit by an Iranian attack, “causing the death of an Indian worker and significant material damage,” according to the government of the emirate. Saudi Arabia announced that it intercepted five missiles heading eastward towards the kingdom.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are multiplying to try to stop the conflict that has been going on for over a month.

On Sunday, Pakistan declared itself ready to “host and facilitate, in the coming days, significant talks” between the United States and Iran aimed at achieving “a comprehensive and lasting resolution to the conflict,” citing increasing support from the UN and China.

Speculation is rife about a possible deployment of US troops on the ground in Iran, an eventuality on which Donald Trump maintains some ambiguity.

An American amphibious assault ship, leading a naval group including “about 3,500” sailors and Marines, arrived in the region on Friday.

“The enemy publicly sends messages of negotiation and dialogue while secretly planning a ground offensive,” denounced the President of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

He went on to warn: “Our men are waiting for the arrival of American soldiers on the ground to attack them and punish once and for all their regional allies.”

The new Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, successor to his father, thanked the religious authorities and the Iraqi people for their support in the face of American-Israeli “aggression.”

Mojtaba Khamenei, still invisible since his appointment on March 8, expressed himself once again in a written message relayed by Iranian media. His absence fuels speculation, with Donald Trump even questioning whether he is alive.

In Lebanon, the second main front of the war, where Israel is fighting the pro-Iranian Shiite Hezbollah, a UN peacekeeper was killed by the explosion of a projectile of unknown origin in the south of the country.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the Israeli army to “expand the security zone” it has taken control of in this region of Lebanon.
