A common saying in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship is that anything can happen at any moment, and that proved true during Round 11 of the Monster Energy SMX World Championship at Ford Field. The challenging racetrack, with its tough whoop section, tested the top racers and led to a major shakeup in the 450SMX Class title race. Ken Roczen from Progressive Insurance Cycle Gear Suzuki dominated the race and clinched his 25th career victory.
The 450SMX Class Main Event started with Jorge Prado from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing grabbing the holeshot, followed by Roczen and Chase Sexton from Monster Energy Kawasaki. Champion Hunter Lawrence had a slow start but fought his way to third place. While Roczen maintained his lead, Sexton and Lawrence tried to catch up but Lawrence crashed hard, losing valuable time in the process.
Roczen extended his lead over Sexton to win the race, with Malcolm Stewart from Rockstar Energy Husqvarna taking third place. The victory shifted the championship standings, putting Eli Tomac back in the lead with a four-point advantage over Lawrence. Roczen’s win brought him within 14 points of the lead, setting up a three-way battle for the championship.
In post-race interviews, Roczen expressed his excitement for the win and the challenges faced during the race. Sexton mentioned the struggles of returning from injury but was pleased with his performance. Stewart highlighted his comeback to the podium after a challenging season, while Tomac acknowledged his frustrations but aimed to bounce back in the upcoming races.
The event marked a pivotal moment in the championship battle, with Tomac reclaiming the lead and Roczen closing in on the top spot. The competitiveness in the 450SMX Class promises an exciting finish to the season with six races remaining.
