On Friday, three men aged 25, 29, and 39 appeared before the sole judge of Carcassonne to answer for acts of “violence committed in a group, resulting in incapacity not exceeding eight days.” These incidents date back to March 12, 2022, in Carcassonne.

On Saturday, March 12, 2022, in the early afternoon, Boumediene, Farouk, and Mohamed visited the after-sales service at the SFR store in Carcassonne to inquire about a phone left for repair.

Upon arrival, they were informed that the phone could not be repaired under warranty. This led to an escalation, with a demand for a new phone, which eventually escalated into violence. A physical altercation ensued, where one of the store managers was punched and kicked while on the ground. Another employee who tried to intervene also became a victim of the violence.

Four years after the incident, the three brothers stood before the judge to address charges of “violence committed in a group resulting in incapacity not exceeding eight days,” “death threats,” and “vandalism in a group.” Boumediene admitted to hitting the store manager three or four times to defend his younger brother Farouk. Farouk, in turn, accepted his role in the violent confrontation. Mohamed confirmed hitting the store manager when he was on the ground.

The defense and prosecution presented their arguments, with one lawyer invoking self-defense for his client while another called for constructive sentencing. The judge eventually acquitted Boumediene based on the defense of others. Mohamed was acquitted of certain charges but sentenced to fines for the group violence. Farouk was also acquitted of some charges but received a sentence of ten months of home detention with electronic surveillance.
