To reassure the markets, Donald Trump is anything but reserved. Facing a group of investors on Friday, March 27, in Florida, he announced: “You can ask me any questions you want, you can talk about anything you want, even sex.” During over an hour of speech, the American president sells his war and presents himself as the man for the job, even renaming the Strait of Hormuz. “They should open the Trump Strait. Sorry, the Hormuz Strait. The lying media will say it’s a slip of the tongue. There are no slips of the tongue with me, or very few.” claims Donald Trump.
The American president describes a world that, according to him, is at his feet, using more than just simple language. “The Saudi prince told me, ‘It’s incredible. A year ago, you were a destroyed country. Now, you are the most genius country.’ He never thought he would kiss my ass one day”, he mocks.
Since the start of the war in the Middle East, not a day goes by without Donald Trump making a statement. This is a strategy to dominate the media space, regardless of whether he contradicts himself or seems to treat the war with insults. Asked about the humanitarian situation in Iran, for example, on Friday, March 27, he preferred to comment on the appearance of the journalist. “First, do you remember our lunch together years ago at the Trump Tower? You are probably even more beautiful today”, he replied.
The American president also doesn’t hesitate to laugh and joke about the death of his enemies. “I asked my generals why we don’t capture that boat instead of sinking it. They told me it’s funnier to sink it”, he said. “Treating war like a game: this is a deliberate communication by the White House. This is a way, according to experts, to try to revive the myth of all-powerful America and thus convince the middle class of the need for this war”, analyzes Diane Schlienger, France 2 correspondent in the United States.
