In Jacksonville, Florida, two brothers have been thriving for over a decade since being adopted together. Dawson and Dalton were adopted by Robbin and Steve Brydges ten years ago when they were 8 and 10. The Brydges made this possible with the help of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and its Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program.
The foundation aims to find permanent homes for children in foster care, especially those with special needs. Dalton, one of the brothers, has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, is nonverbal, legally blind, and quadriplegic. Despite his challenges, the Brydges family has provided a loving and supportive environment for him.
Both brothers now have their passions – Dawson loves football and attends The Bolles School, while Dalton enjoys music, Mickey Mouse, and playing baseball at the Field of Dreams in St. Johns County. Dalton is currently in an adult transition program and recently underwent surgery that allows him to stand with assistance.
Robbin Brydges expressed how their family feels complete and perfectly constructed. She emphasized the importance of providing permanent homes for children in foster care, as many young people age out of the system without a family each year. The foundation shared that without family support, one in five youth will end up homeless after turning 18.
