The way in which the Islamic Republic will do it will however be addressed during “a forthcoming round of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program” adds the American newspaper.

On their side, the Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim claim that issues related to nuclear activity will be negotiated within 60 days following the signing of the agreement.

And, according to Fars, “Iran has not committed to this agreement to give up nuclear stocks, remove equipment, close facilities or even not build a nuclear bomb.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, stated that he agreed with Donald Trump that any final agreement with Iran must “completely eliminate the nuclear threat.”

Will the Strait of Hormuz be unblocked?

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been de facto blocked by Iran since the beginning of the war launched by the United States and Israel on February 28, is a central point of discussion.

The almost blockade of this passage, through which 20% of the world’s consumed hydrocarbons passed before the war, has caused oil prices to soar and shaken the global economy.

Before the hostilities, ships crossed it freely.

Donald Trump mentioned on Saturday a “largely negotiated compromise” that would involve the reopening of the strait. However, Iranian sources familiar with the negotiations, cited by Fars, claim that if the agreement includes a blockage of the strait, it would remain under Iran’s control.

“The status of the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war situation,” Tasnim points out.

Regarding the American blockade of Iranian ports, this agency believes that it should be “fully lifted within 30 days.”

However, Donald Trump stated on Sunday that this blockade would remain “fully in effect” until an agreement is reached.

In Iran, “the confusion between the different centers of power increases the risk of civil war.”

What about sanctions and assets?

Tehran regularly insists on the unfreezing of Iranian assets abroad, blocked due to American sanctions.

Iran has emphasized that there will be no agreement unless some of these assets are released in the first stage and a clear mechanism is established to ensure the release of other blocked funds, according to an “informed source” cited by Tasnim.

According to her, if a final agreement has not yet been reached, it is mainly due to disagreements on this issue.

According to Tasnim, despite discussions initiated on Sunday, the United States continues to block certain clauses of the agreement including the issue of assets.

Fars agency also reports that sanctions targeting oil, gas, and other petrochemical products would be lifted during the negotiation process to allow Iran to export these productions, crucial for its economy.

The supreme Iranian leader is hardening his position on nuclear issues and making a decision that will not please the United States.

And Lebanon?

Israel is conducting daily strikes in Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement negotiated by the United States, claiming to target the pro-Iranian movement Hezbollah.

Iran has stated that any ceasefire must apply to all fronts of the regional war, including Lebanon, and Hezbollah has said to be convinced that its ally would not abandon it.

Tasnim reported that “a memorandum of understanding (…) would first be announced, emphasizing the end of fighting on all fronts, including in Lebanon.” “As part of this arrangement, it would also be expected that Israel, as a US ally, would end the war in Lebanon,” she added.

However, Mr. Netanyahu stated on Sunday that Donald Trump had reaffirmed “Israel’s right” to “defend itself against threats on all fronts, including in Lebanon.”
