SadaNews – Official media reported today, Saturday, that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un expressed his support for China’s efforts to build a “multipolar world” and called for deeper relations between the two traditional allies during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During the meeting on Friday, Kim declared that his government would fully support Chinese efforts for territorial integrity based on the “One China principle,” referring to Beijing’s official position that Taiwan is an integral part of Chinese territory, according to the North Korean central press agency.

The central Korean press agency reported that Kim also clarified North Korea’s position on regional and international issues of “mutual interest,” stating that the continuous development of relations between the two countries has become increasingly important in the current geopolitical environment.

Wang, who is on a two-day visit to North Korea, stated that the relations between the two countries are entering a “new phase” following last year’s summit between Kim and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

With the adoption of the ideas of the “new Cold War” and the “multipolar world,” Kim has sought to break out of international isolation and pursue a firmer foreign policy by expanding relations with governments in conflict with the United States.
