In an interview with a journalist from the Vietnamese news agency VNA in Switzerland on April 8, international journalist Jean Musy, editor-in-chief of Radio Zones, stated that the results of the election of leadership positions clearly reflected Vietnam’s orientation towards political stability and continued economic reforms in the coming period.
According to Jean Musy, the election of Vietnam’s top leaders for the 2026-2031 term demonstrates the commitment to maintaining political stability, ensuring governance continuity, and promoting economic reforms under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam. This helps enhance the confidence of foreign markets and investors, especially in a global context marked by numerous crises and economic challenges.
In terms of immediate priorities, Jean Musy emphasized that instability in the Middle East necessitates ensuring a stable energy supply. The current situation disrupts the plans of many countries, highlighting the critical role of energy in economic stability.
In the long term, Vietnam will need to address several strategic issues, such as improving the quality of vocational training for youth, promoting innovation and technological development, accelerating energy transition while protecting the environment, and addressing an aging population. Additionally, reducing social inequalities and ensuring harmonious development are imperative in a rapidly changing world.
Regarding foreign policy, Jean Musy stated that international changes could have repercussions on Vietnam. Vietnam’s foreign policy, known for its flexibility, may face numerous challenges amid escalating strategic competition between major powers in a context of converging and competing economic interests between China and the United States. The risk is that Vietnam may have to make strategic choices sooner than anticipated, despite efforts to diversify international partnerships and economic agreements.
Moreover, the increase in interest rates in the United States and its potential impact in Europe, as well as the complexity of the situation in the South China Sea regarding sovereignty and resources, add to the governance challenges in Vietnam. In this context, leaders must leverage national strengths while adapting flexibly to an increasingly interconnected and interdependent global environment, where competition among major powers continues to exert considerable influence.
Overall, according to journalist Jean Musy’s assessment, the new term for Vietnamese leaders will present numerous opportunities but also many challenges, requiring a harmonious combination of internal stability, economic reforms, and flexibility in foreign policy to ensure sustainable development in the period ahead.
