Russian Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov criticized the United States’ foreign policy at a meeting of the Russian Council on International Affairs. This was reported in the Russian press bulletin covering the period from March 30 to April 5, 2026, published by the Russian Embassy in Senegal and Gambia and received by Seneweb today.
Lavrov stated that “certain countries have recently lost their way by claiming rights over foreign territories.” To support his statement, Lavrov cited two recent American declarations that occurred two days apart.
On one hand, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, when asked about the conflict in the Persian Gulf, conditioned any resolution on Iran, accusing it of “blatant violations of international law” if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz.
On the other hand, President Donald Trump declared that “international law matters little to me; I have my own moral compass and instincts.”
In response to this contradiction, Lavrov did not mince his words. “Here is a two-faced strategy,” he emphasized.
