Mircea Lucescu Expected to Undergo Surgery After Being Admitted to Intensive Care in Bucharest
Fingers crossed. Currently in intensive care in Bucharest, Mircea Lucescu will be able to undergo surgery, as announced on Monday evening by the SUUB hospital, where the 80-year-old coach has been receiving treatment since last week. “For now, it has been decided to continue the current treatment, which is considered satisfactory. Tomorrow, the patient’s condition will be reassessed, and the possibility of an invasive intervention, namely the establishment of a mechanical circulatory support system (ECMO), will be considered,” the healthcare facility communicated.
Hospitalized since March 29
As a reminder, the former coach of the Romanian national team was admitted to the emergency room following a fainting spell at the national team’s training camp at the end of March. While he appeared to be recovering and heading towards returning home, several successive cardiac arrests last Friday led to his placement in intensive care, where he is still currently. Now equipped with a defibrillator, the former Romanian international and coach of Inter, Galatasaray, Shakhtar, and the Turkish national team will now undergo surgery.
Strength, Mr. Lucescu.
