The Languedoc-Roussillon region confirms its position as France’s top wine region in the 2026 General Agricultural Competition rankings. In the wine category, it won 545 medals, including 273 gold, 215 silver, and 57 bronze medals.
Wine industry professionals in Occitanie are particularly pleased with this recognition. Their wines impressed the jury, composed of professionals (oenologists, artisans, chefs, producers) and discerning consumers.
From February 21 to February 24, 2026, thousands of samples from across France were sampled, compared, and evaluated based on strict criteria of quality, typicality, and excellence. This year, 3,226 wines were awarded in 2026. Languedoc-Roussillon, the leading region, secured 545 medals (273 gold, 215 silver, 57 bronze).
Established in 1870, the General Agricultural Competition annually recognizes the best French products, wines, animals, and agricultural practices.
In terms of wines, 235 medals were awarded in Herault, 104 in Gard, 137 in Aude, 66 in Pyrenees-Orientales, and 3 for IGP Pays d’Oc in Vaucluse.
This year, the Anne de Joyeuse winery in Limoux alone accumulated 12 awards for IGP Pays d’Oc, AOP Limoux, and IGP Haute Vallée de l’Aude wines. It received 5 gold medals, 6 silver, and one bronze. These accolades serve as an important commercial lever to boost wine sales.
These medals provide an additional argument to differentiate in a highly competitive market.
“It’s rewarding for our customers and a source of pride for our 300 winemakers who work in the cooperative cellar. It rewards our daily work!” – said Maxime Rieutor, Marketing Manager of the cooperative cellar.
Many producers highlight their distinctions on social media, contributing to enhancing the visibility and attractiveness of regional wines.
These results, however, come in a challenging context for the wine industry. The profession remains vulnerable due to an increasingly competitive market, declining consumption linked to reduced purchasing power, and climate vagaries affecting harvests.
Following the four days of tasting, 5,298 medals were awarded out of the 19,080 samples presented in various product categories, including dairy products, honey, charcuterie, meats, fruit juices, etc.
The General Agricultural Competition aims to highlight the excellence of producers who sustain France’s gastronomic heritage.
