FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Science Central celebrated the grand opening of its planetarium on Wednesday: a project years in the making.

This is Northeast Indiana’s only public planetarium.

Six-year-old Lyla Ralston visited the planetarium with her grandma, Carolyn Johnson, during spring break.

Ralston said that when she grows up, she wants to be an astronaut.

Now, after staring up at the stars, it looks like she might be floating into space in the near future.

“I liked it a lot, and it looked really cool,” she said.

She said her favorite part was being able to see Fort Wayne through a bird’s eye view.

“You could see the building that we were in,” she said.

Jonny Hillenbrand said he and his family didn’t even know about the grand opening.

“I went to the restroom, and when I came back I said, ‘Guys, the line’s open,'” he said.

His mom, Sandy Hillenbrand, said their family enjoys learning while having fun, so this new exhibit was a happy surprise.

“Space is interesting, you know, it’s exploring what is unknown, and seeing what’s out there,” she said.
