A new twist, this time from across the Atlantic, in France’s most notorious criminal mystery.
On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the sheriff’s office in Brewster County, Texas, issued a public appeal on social media to locate Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès. The suspect has been wanted since 2011 for the murder of his wife and four children in Nantes.
Although the sheriff urges anyone who thinks they recognize the fugitive to call 911, American authorities clarify that “no confirmed sightings have been reported at this time, either in Brewster County or elsewhere in the state of Texas. The public appeal is based on several photographs of the presumed killer posted on Facebook.
An affair marked by false leads
This announcement should be taken with extreme caution, as the case has been marked by leads that have never led to anything.
In 2019, a highly publicized arrest in Scotland turned out to be a mistake after DNA tests.
At this point, there is no evidence that Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès ever set foot on American soil, but this public appeal proves that the hunt remains active, fifteen years after the events.
