Dr. Pham Anh Tuan currently serves on the editorial board of the prestigious international journal Geosynthetics International (Q1). In 2025, he won two major awards: the international “Rising Star” prize in geotechnical engineering and the Golden Globe prize for science and technology awarded by the Central Youth Union.

These impressive accolades confirm the position of a Vietnamese intellectual on the global stage, but for him, they are just “steps on a continuous learning journey.” It’s the persevering journey of a young man who started with nothing, overcoming his limits with a strong desire to reach the heights of knowledge.

Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, currently working at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden, comes from humble beginnings in Vietnam’s central Quang Binh province (now Quang Tri). His childhood was marked by his parents’ struggles to save every penny for their children’s education. These challenges instilled in him a strong will and determination to change his destiny through education.

During his studies, Tuan juggled coursework, research, and tutoring to support himself. He actively sought scholarships to ease his family’s financial burden and pursue his dream of studying abroad. In 2016, he secured prestigious scholarships to study in France, beginning a successful international academic and research journey.

Tuan explained that in the international academic community, criteria for innovation, research methodology, and scientific idea communication are strict. His first international scientific publication focused on geotechnical study of soil interactions with geosynthetics, taking him over two years to revise and finalize before acceptance.

Despite article rejections and creative blocks, these experiences taught Tuan that science is a path of perseverance, discipline, and faith. His most exciting research involves energy foundations and infrastructure solutions for climate change adaptation, aiming at efficient, sustainable building designs.

Through platforms like Scholarshipidea.net, Tuan aims to amplify Vietnamese scientific achievements globally. He believes that innovative research solving societal challenges defines the true impact of science. Tuan aspires to bridge universities, businesses, and communities to apply science effectively in real life.
