Mickey Rourke, the Oscar-nominated actor, has been instructed to leave his home in Los Angeles County after refusing financial help from supporters who raised over $100,000 to avoid his eviction.
Court records show that landlord Eric Goldie won a default judgment against Philip Andre Rourke, also known as Mickey Rourke.
Rourke had agreed to rent a three-bedroom home on Drexel Ave. in Los Angeles for $5,200 per month, which later increased to $7,000 per month until at least April 30 of the previous year.
As of the end of last year, Rourke reportedly owed Goldie $59,100, including legal fees, due to missed payments.
Rourke defended his decision not to pay rent, citing poor living conditions in the house such as rodent problems, plumbing issues, and lack of maintenance.
Despite Rourke’s complaints, Goldie and his attorney have not commented on the situation.
Rourke’s manager had started a GoFundMe campaign to raise $100,000 to repay the rent and support him during a difficult time, but Rourke denied giving permission for the fundraiser and expressed frustration and confusion about it.
The actor publicly announced that he would never ask for charity and was embarrassed by the campaign, stating that he would take extreme actions before seeking financial aid.
He stressed his desire for a modest lifestyle without depending on outside help for money.
