The first theme was dedicated to the place of women in scientific fields under the title “But where are the girls?”. It aimed to understand, testify, and act so that girls have their rightful place in the sciences.

On this occasion, the organization invited two conference speakers who are members of the association Women and Sciences, which works to promote equality between women and men, especially in scientific careers. It targets a wide audience ranging from the educational world to scientific institutions, as well as companies, women’s networks, and generally, the general public.

Isabelle Pianet, an engineer at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) Archéosciences in Bordeaux, is very committed to gender equality in sciences. Marie-Blanche Mauhourat is a physics chemistry professor in secondary schools and preparatory classes, inspector general of the academy, and a former student of Claudine Hermann, co-founder of Women and Sciences.

The speakers tried to raise awareness about these inequalities, starting with the students of the Aliénor-d’Aquitaine middle school on Thursday, April 2. The questions and concerns of the young people about their academic, university, and professional future were at the heart of the session.

For the general public next

Subsequently, the speakers met a wider audience at the Brantôme Tourist Office. Initially, they discussed the figures of local female scientists who have passed through Nouvelle-Aquitaine: namely Angélique du Coudray (1712-1794), Marie-Louise Jacotin (1905-1972), Edith Mourier (1920-2017), and Yvette Amice (1936-1993).
