After two years and 30,000 km of loyal service, it’s time to start thinking about finding the electric car that will replace my Seat Mii Electric. I invite you to join me on this journey.
As you may know, if you are loyal readers of Automobile Propre, it has been two years and 30,000 km since I became the proud owner of a 2020 Seat Mii Electric affectionately named Miireille. Unfortunately, I have to announce that this may be our last anniversary together. Let’s be clear, to preserve the impeccable reputation of this amazing electric car ahead of its time, she is not responsible for this planned separation. When I bought her, she met 95% of my personal needs, but those have since changed. It’s not her, it’s me.
What do I need now? More range? More power? More sophisticated equipment? Faster charging speed? Technology enthusiasts will be disappointed as none of these are the issue. With its 83 hp, 250 km WLTP range, and 40 kW DC charging, the technical specs of the Spanish representative of Volkswagen’s trio from 2020 continue to suit me perfectly. The main issue now is a lack of interior space. While a roof box was considered, it would only partially solve the problem, as it cannot accommodate the increasingly occasional rear passengers’ kneecaps.
However, I will need to find the best compromise between interior space and size, as the chosen one must not exceed 4 meters in length to park peacefully in my condo’s courtyard without potentially disturbing the eternal fragile balance of good neighborly relations.
Fortunately, the offering in the category of electric city cars has significantly expanded recently. Renault 5 and Twingo, Nissan Micra, BYD Dolphin Surf, Fiat Grande Panda, or Hyundai Inster (and probably others), there is something for everyone.
“Why is he telling us his life story?” you may ask. Well, just like we strongly advise you to quickly and freely test drive a model you desire through our test center, I will do the same with the aforementioned ones. This will naturally lead to articles on Automobile Propre where I will wear two hats: a sportswear cap with the vintage NBA logo of the specialized journalist and a shabby chic vegan beret handmade in Scotland with a thread sticking out (for authenticity) of the everyday electric car owner.
And we will start immediately as I have just received a Hyundai Inster Cross 49 kWh in Executive trim and a five-seater version for a month-long test drive. In search of the New Star, here we go.
