Valérie Van Grootel is a scientist who has mixed feelings about the return to the Moon. She remains an “enthusiast of space”, always finding emotion behind this kind of photos and exploits. She is delighted by what humanity is capable of achieving. However, she is clear about the real objectives of these missions.
And she holds a lesson from it: “The very beautiful photos of Artemis where we really see the Earth as a small blue marble in space, and even what science in general and astronomy tell us, is that Earth is essential to humanity and that we have no planet B, we cannot imagine a human civilization in space. The most important issue, eventually, that we may overlook a bit with this race to the Moon, is that we need to keep our Earth habitable because there is no backup planet at the moment.”
