On April 5, industrial sources reported that the management of the electronics giant Samsung Electronics and the French artificial intelligence startup Mistral AI discussed the possibility of collaborating in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) memory.
More specifically, Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI, recently met with Jeon Young-hyun, head of device solutions at Samsung Electronics.
The meeting took place at Samsung’s manufacturing facility in Hwaseong to explore collaboration opportunities in the supply chain of AI chips and related technologies.
Mr. Mensch was in South Korea during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Seoul for discussions with President Lee Jae Myung.
Mistral AI, a startup often seen as a rival to OpenAI in Europe, is seeking to secure a stable supply of semiconductors to support its Mistral Large language model and expand its AI infrastructure.
The visit to Samsung’s semiconductor manufacturing facility is seen as part of this effort.
An industry insider indicated that following recent discussions between Samsung’s management and Lisa Su, CEO of chipmaker AMD, Mistral AI is also pushing to negotiate with Samsung to ensure reliable chip supply in an increasingly tight memory market.
