On Monday, March 23, 157 students from private schools in Drain (Notre-Dame-de-l’Enfance), Landemont (Notre-Dame), and Liré (Coulée-Saint-Joseph) gathered at the sports hall in Landemont for the 26th Young Researchers Congress. It involved eight classes from CP to CM2 for a scientific day focusing on the five senses theme.

Since January, students have conducted various experiments related to challenges involving sight, taste, and smell. For example, they learned how to look over a 1.70m wall while standing on the ground, build a machine to animate a series of images, or create a device to send a sound message without yelling to a person in another room.

They presented their research to others and had the opportunity to meet a researcher. Richard Guillonneau, a microbiologist working at CNRS and the University of Nantes, shared his profession and research on combating cholera with the students. After a picnic, the students engaged in a scientific debate around a common challenge to discover hidden objects in a mysterious box using their senses. The day ended with the microbiologist awarding a diploma to the young researchers.
