OKLAHOMA CITY- (KOKH) – A new program is set to launch in Oklahoma schools, aiming to enhance students’ math and science skills outside regular school hours. Po-Shen Loh, the founder of LIVE, described the program as similar to sports practice, but focused on academic subjects like math and science.
The LIVE program utilizes high school math enthusiasts to lead live streams and teach students. Recognizing the need to challenge students who desire more academic stimulation, LIVE is partnering with the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics Foundation to offer scholarships and expand access to the program.
Starting in January 2027, at least two full scholarships will be available in every county in Oklahoma for students to participate in the LIVE program free of charge. The program will be open to sixth-grade students, who will remain involved for three years. Loh emphasized the importance of making educational opportunities more accessible, especially for families who may not have the financial means to pay for such programs.
Tony Cornforth, President of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, highlighted the upcoming outreach efforts to sixth-grade math teachers across the state. This initiative will allow teachers to nominate students for the program and provide them with a chance to expand their academic horizons outside the traditional classroom setting.
