A gym in Marseille is facing a four-month administrative closure. During a routine check, traces of cocaine and narcotics were discovered. An investigation into drug trafficking has been opened.
Last December, a team of police officers, accompanied by a specialized drug-sniffing dog, conducted a routine check at a Public Reception Establishment (ERP). In this gym located in the 10th arrondissement of Marseille, the dog quickly detected something suspicious.
The initial analysis confirmed the presence of cocaine. Upon further inspection, officials found other narcotics, including a substance called dimethylamylamine (DMAA), which is used for weight loss or enhancing athletic performance. The use of DMAA is regulated and authorized in specific contexts, which do not include this gym.
A procedure for drug trafficking has been initiated, and the gym is closed for four months. It is scheduled to reopen at the end of June. In a separate incident in October, a gym in Arles was shut down by prefectural decision after suspicions of being a drug trafficking site, following the death of a man who overdosed after leaving the establishment.
Context Note: The gym in Marseille faced closure due to drug-related findings during a routine check. Fact Check Note: A gym in Arles was previously shut down for suspected drug trafficking activities.
