Egyptian attacker Mohamed Salah, who has become a global star and an icon of the club since joining in 2017, will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, the English club announced on Tuesday March 24.
“The attacker has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him conclude a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield,” wrote the current English champions. “Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters as soon as possible to ensure transparency regarding his future, out of respect and gratitude towards them.”
The right-winger has carved out a place among the legends of Liverpool since his arrival from AS Roma in 2017. Under the red shirt, the number 11 has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, making him the third highest goal scorer in the club’s history. He has also won the English championship twice and a Champions League title, along with several other trophies (Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, domestic cups).
In April 2025, the “pharaoh” extended his contract with Liverpool FC until 2027 according to the sports press, a logical reward after sparkling months. He was voted the best player of the 2024-2025 season in the Premier League. But his influence has waned this season, along with his playing time, due to disappointing individual performances.
Last December, he criticized a situation as “not acceptable, not fair” after being benched for a third consecutive match. “I feel like the club has thrown me under the bus,” the winger told journalists. “I am not the problem, I have done so much for this club. I shouldn’t have to fight every day for my position, because I have earned it,” he added. This fiery outburst led to him being excluded from the squad for one match. His relationship with coach Arne Slot has since normalized, but his future remained uncertain. “The time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will come later in the year, when he bids farewell to Anfield,” the club stated.
