Football – New French team jerseys unveiled
With 85 days to go before the start of the French team’s World Cup campaign on June 16 against Senegal at the MetLife Stadium, the French Football Federation revealed their new jerseys on Monday. The home jersey, in blue, sees the return of a white polo collar, while the away kit is, for the first time, in a green-grey shade as a tribute to the Statue of Liberty, given by the French to the Americans in the late 19th century as a symbol of friendship.
Basketball – Title for Wembanyama and the Spurs
By winning a sixth consecutive match on the Heat’s court on Monday night (136-111), the Spurs claimed the championship title of the Southwest Division, a first for the Texan franchise since the 2016-2017 season. French center Wembanyama also continued his impressive performance, despite a lack of success from three-point range (1/7), scoring 26 points, 15 assists, 5 blocks, and 4 rebounds in 26 minutes.
Cycling – Godon too strong for Evenepoel
The first stage of the Tour of Catalonia saw a French cyclist triumph on Monday. Dorian Godon, who had already raised his arms in victory at the penultimate stage of Paris-Nice, sprinted to win ahead of Remco Evenepoel after a closely fought battle. “I think I passed Remco too early, I should have waited a bit, it was so tough. I was among the first five or six approaching the final climb. I started my sprint 400 meters from the finish line, but it was really long and the last 50 meters felt endless. I made it, so I’m really happy,” the French champion later told Eurosport.
Tennis – Atmane’s triumph
While Corentin Moutet didn’t stand a chance against Jannik Sinner, three French players managed to join Arthur Fils in the round of 16 at the Miami Masters 1000. Ugo Humbert defeated Alexander Shevchenko, Quentin Halys beat Kamil Majchrzak, and Terence Atmane achieved a feat by defeating Félix Auger-Aliassime in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-3).
