The Senegal national team is taking action and fighting back. A week after being stripped of their African championship title, won on the field after a chaotic final against Morocco in January, the Lions of Teranga filed an appeal on Tuesday with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The information was confirmed on Monday night by Moussa Mbaye, a member of the executive committee of the Senegalese Football Federation, during an interview on a national channel.
“This is a procedure that we will initiate on Tuesday,” said the leader. “People may hear a lot of fake news, but they should patiently wait for official communications from the Senegalese Football Federation. We will not act emotionally, but in a very calm and clear manner to defend Senegal’s best interests.”
The Senegalese official also announced that the lawyer in charge of defending the case is a specialist in sports disputes and has successfully represented cases before the Swiss authority several times. He was the one who defended Morocco after the African Football Confederation (CAF) excluded the Moroccan team from two editions of the African Cup of Nations for refusing to host the tournament in 2015.
