While Lens refuses to postpone their match against PSG, between the two Champions League quarter-finals against Liverpool, the Parisian club is playing the card of collective interest.
Scheduled for April 11 at Bollaert, three days after the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final between PSG and Liverpool but also three days before the return leg, will the clash between Lens and the European champions from Paris be postponed?
“A singular conception of sporting fairness” for Lens
If the LFP must decide on Thursday, like Strasbourg, qualified for the Europa Conference League quarter-finals and requesting the postponement of their match against Brest, and does not need the clubs’ agreement to make its decision, Pierre Sage, the coach of the Sang et Or, first opposed this idea, before his club followed suit on Monday in an offensive statement, denouncing “a singular conception of sporting fairness” and lamenting “that the tenth budget in the championship should adapt to the demands of the most powerful.”
The capital club, which had obtained the postponement of the match against Nantes initially scheduled between their two round of 16 against Chelsea, did not respond with a statement, but through a reaction from its entourage to Le Parisien.
“The stakes are high” reminds PSG
For PSG, “the performances of French clubs engaged in European competitions benefit French football as a whole, in a context where France currently occupies 6th place in the UEFA coefficient for the 2025-2026 season.” And a reminder that for French clubs, who are closely followed by the Portuguese in the UEFA coefficient, “the stakes are high.”
Because it is necessary to “secure the 5th place in the UEFA coefficient, synonymous with a better representation of French football in European competitions, with up to seven qualified clubs. The success of French clubs in Europe generally has direct repercussions for all professional clubs, not just for the teams involved in these competitions.”
And to ensure again that this request is “framed and transparent, in no way constitutes a questioning of the championship.” This is not really the opinion of RC Lens…
