Lens will oppose the request to postpone the match of the 29th day of Ligue 1 made by Paris Saint-Germain. Initially scheduled for April 11 between the two Champions League matches against Liverpool, the duel between Parisians and Athenians could be rescheduled.

According to information from RMC Sport, Lens will reject PSG’s request to postpone the scheduled meeting on April 11. The northern club was open to rescheduling this match if it “made sense” to them.

For the current second-place Ligue 1 team, postponing the clash of the 29th day of the championship between the 33rd and 34th days is not at all appealing. According to the Athenian club, this would mean not playing for two weeks and then playing three matches later in a single week. The decision of the League is expected this Thursday, during a board meeting of the LFP which will have the final say.

The PSG wants to rest before the return leg against Liverpool

From PSG’s perspective, this request was made due to the two Champions League clashes against Liverpool. If the first leg of the quarter-final against the Reds is scheduled for April 8 at the Parc des Princes, the return leg will be played on Tuesday, April 14 at Anfield. In the eyes of PSG, it is crucial to have a few extra days of rest to best prepare for this continental duel and maximize their chances of qualification. As the closest pursuer to Paris in the championship with only one point behind, Lens intends to take advantage of this match to make a move in the title race.

“We, initially, are not in agreement,” said Pierre Sage after the victory against Angers (5-1) on Friday in a press conference. “From the top of the pyramid, we do not agree. (…) I understand that having more rest allows you to perform. They confirmed this during their match against Chelsea. It’s a club that is very strong and in several competitions. They also face the constraints.”

> “On our side, there is only one date left. We don’t have to endure these things.”

Beyond the sporting stakes of the match itself, Lens did not agree to accept the proposed postponement by PSG. While the Parisians might consider rotating players in the following match against Paris FC in the 34th round of the championship, the Sang et Or will still have a tough match with a risky trip to Lyon.
