Eric Perrot settled for third place in the Oslo mass start, the final race of the season, but he admitted to savoring the moment before claiming the big Crystal Globe awarded to the winner of the overall World Cup standings.
Despite not finishing the season on top, with a miss on each of the two standing shots, the native of Bourg-Saint-Maurice took third place in the mass start held on Sunday at Holmenkollen, above Oslo, behind Johan-Olav Botn and Philipp Nawrath. However, the main focus was elsewhere for the season’s best biathlete, who wanted to seize the moment. “I wanted to savor it with everyone, those moments slip away so quickly,” he told L’Equipe’s microphone. “To just take a few moments with family, with the team, is powerful.”
Perrot: “A lot of pride”
While acknowledging that “it’s hard to realize,” Eric Perrot is certain it will remain in his memory. With a total of 1263 points, the Frenchman becomes the fifth French biathlete to win the big Crystal Globe for the overall World Cup standings, giving him “a lot of pride.” “It’s hard to find the right words, it’s hard to truly understand what it is,” he said. “But after taking one globe after another, I think it’s still something crazy. It was magical, it was too good.” He assures being “pleased with this race” which saw him fight for victory until the end.
Perrot: “I wanted to finish like this”
A scenario that leaves him with no regrets, quite the opposite. “I wanted to finish like this, being sharp, feeling strong,” he concluded. “Maybe a few small points are missing, as there may have been throughout the season. But it’s in this commitment that I have succeeded in achieving beautiful victories.” Beyond the overall standings, Eric Perrot also won the small Crystal Globes for the individual, pursuit, and mass start. He only leaves the sprint one to his runner-up Sturla Holm Laegreid. These impressive performances now need to be confirmed next winter, with the restart scheduled for November 26 in Kontiolahti.
