As the Ajax players traveled by bus to Rotterdam to play the « Klassieker » against Feyenoord this Sunday, they had to stop in the middle of the highway overrun by ultras from the club in Amsterdam who came to show their strong support.
The Ajax supporters made their presence known once again. A few months after forcing the stop of the match against Groningen by using a lot of smoke bombs, the ultras of the Amsterdam club wanted to show their support before the « Klassieker » against Feyenoord Rotterdam that was played on Sunday at De Kuip Stadium. For this occasion, the players coached by Oscar Garcia made the short trip by bus a few hours before kick-off. It was during this journey that the ultras took action… by invading the highway where the Ajax delegation was. As a result, several dozen fans appeared on the road with smoke bombs and flags to send a message to the players.
No injuries reported
Consequently, traffic was greatly disrupted as the bus, which did not escape unscathed from this demonstration of support, had to make a maneuver to resume its journey and reach the port city of South Holland. « We understand that they want to support their club, but it’s extremely dangerous, a spokesperson for the local police told NU.nl. Fortunately, everything ended well. No injuries were reported despite the risks taken by these supporters, who were evacuated after the intervention of law enforcement. An operation that two Ajax supporter associations, AFCA and F-Side, boasted about on social media.
Ajax settles for a draw
Not hiding the fact that it will be « difficult to identify who ran, as they had their faces covered », the local police assured that the identified supporters « can expect a complaint ». On the sports front, Ajax had to settle for a draw in this « Klassieker » (1-1). After Sean Steur’s opening goal at the start of the second half, the Amsterdam club saw Feyenoord equalize late in the game on a penalty converted by Jakub Moder. Rotterdam’s club does not take advantage of PSV Eindhoven’s second consecutive defeat at SC Telstar (3-1), as they maintain a fifteen-point lead over their closest rival. Ajax remains in fourth place, two points behind Nijmegen, currently in third place and qualified for the Champions League playoffs.
