Ligue 1: PSG thrashes Nice and regains the top spot in the championship ahead of Lens before the international break

Taking the lead despite their postponed match. Pressured by Lens who thrashed Angers 5-1 on Friday opening the 27th day of Ligue 1, Parisians responded on Saturday, March 21. Luis Enrique’s men easily defeated Niçois 4-0, extending the lead towards the end of the game while Aiglons played with 10 men for the last thirty minutes.

At the Allianz Riviera, Niçois – struggling this season in 15th place after finishing 4th last year – started well. Despite the beautiful crosses from Jonathan Clauss, they couldn’t capitalize in front of Matvey Safonov’s goal, but kept pressure high on PSG’s defense causing turnovers.

A strike from Désiré Doué found the net just before half-time, awarded a penalty after Morgan Sanson’s handball. Nuno Mendes converted the penalty (42nd minute).

After half-time, Luis Enrique’s men quickly scored again. Doué scored a superb goal (49th minute) after a great combination with Nuno Mendes. The match turned against Niçois when Youssouf Ndayishimiye received a red card for a reckless challenge on Lee (61st minute).

Already dominated, Niçois then collapsed. Parisians mounted dangerous attacks around the 70th minute, scoring two goals in succession in the 81st and 85th minutes. First by the young Spanish Dro Fernandez (18 years old) from FC Barcelona, set up by Ousmane Dembélé. Then by Warren Zaïre-Emery, fortunate to receive a pass from Beraldo.

Aside from Senny Mayulu’s injury before half-time, the match in Nice boosted Parisians’ confidence after a defeat against Monaco in Ligue 1. Niçois, on the other hand, failed to secure a second consecutive victory, something not seen since late October. They remain in 15th place. Leading the league with 60 points, PSG plays Nantes in April for the 26th matchday, ahead of Lens (59 points) and Marseille (49 points) facing Lille on Sunday.
