Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have both secured their spots in the Champions League quarter-finals. While PSG and Real Madrid, led by Kylian Mbappé, still await the name of their opponent, the first match of the next round is already known.
With a three-goal advantage from the first leg, PSG’s victory over Chelsea on Tuesday (3-0, 8-2 on aggregate) was more than enough to advance. Paris, guided by a spirited Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, will continue defending their continental title won in 2025. In the next round, PSG will face the winner of the match between Liverpool and Galatasaray. Despite initial predictions of an easy win for Liverpool, their defeat in Istanbul in the first leg (1-0) has cast doubt ahead of the second leg at Anfield on Wednesday. Following their qualification against Chelsea, PSG is expected to be a favorite against Galatasaray or the English team.
Furthermore, in another three-goal victory from the first leg, Real Madrid defeated Manchester City on Tuesday. The Skyblues of Pep Guardiola had no chance for a comeback, being eliminated by the Madrid side (1-2, 1-5 on aggregate). Kylian Mbappé returned to the squad despite knee issues, playing around twenty minutes to help secure their spot in the quarter-finals.
As for the next opponent of Real Madrid, it is likely to be Bayern Munich, who triumphed over Atalanta in Italy in the first leg (6-1).
In a different match, Arsenal triumphed over Leverkusen after a hard-fought battle (2-0, 3-1 on aggregate). The Gunners, led by Frenchman William Saliba, will now face Sporting in the first quarter-final of the Lisbon club in the competition. Arsenal will have to be cautious against the energized Portuguese side, who secured a remarkable victory over Bodo/Glimt in front of their home crowd (5-0 after extra time, 5-3 on aggregate).
The Champions League quarter-finals matchups are as follows: – PSG vs Liverpool or Galatasaray – Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich or Atalanta Bergamo – Sporting vs Arsenal – Tottenham or Atlético vs Barcelona or Newcastle
The quarter-finals will take place on April 7 and 8 for the first legs, and on April 14 and 15 for the second legs. Fans can follow the action live on the RMC Sport website and app.
