OM bounces back and moves forward. Eliminated from the French Cup midweek after a penalty shootout loss to Toulouse, Marseille emerged victorious on the High-Garonne team’s pitch (1-0) on Saturday, March 7, for the 25th round of Ligue 1.
Getting off to a strong start against a Toulouse side that initially struggled, Marseille quickly made the difference with an offensive move launched by Facundo Medina from his own half. Found on the wing, Igor Paixao set up Mason Greenwood who found the target past Guillaume Restes with a well-placed shot (18th minute), his 15th goal of the season. They could have increased the lead if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (27th), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (45th), or Igor Paixao (90+5th) had been more successful in front of goal.
In a lively end to the match, Marseille defended to maintain their advantage and secure a precious victory in the race for the Champions League.
Habib Beye’s men now have two consecutive league victories, following their comeback win against Lyon last weekend. They temporarily climb to third place, overtaking Lyon, pending their result against Paris FC on Sunday evening.
