Three years after Kalylia Nemour, Olympic champion (uneven bars) at the 2024 Olympics under the colors of Algeria, another dual-nationality gymnast, Djenna Laroui, recently announced her change of sporting nationality in favor of Algeria.
“This choice, I didn’t take it lightly”
But she explained her choice on her social networks. “I didn’t take it lightly. This idea has always been in the back of my mind. I knew that one day, I would change my sporting nationality… I just didn’t know when. Today, the opportunity presented itself and I decided to seize it.”
Referring to the “immense honor” of representing France all these years, during a “journey marked by multiple medals at the French championships, as well as at the Mediterranean Games, World Cups, European championships, and world championships,” she said she is “proud of this path taken.”
It is worth noting her bronze medal in the team all-around competition at the 2025 European Championships in Leipzig, as well as bronze at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp in the team all-around competition, but as a substitute. Her great disappointment was missing out on the Paris 2024 Olympics. That same year was marked by a six-month suspension following a positive doping test.
