ASSE coach gives updates on Boakye and Larsonneur
Following ASSE’s success against Dunkerque, Philippe Montanier provided updates on Augustine Boakye and Gautier Larsonneur.
ASSE’s victory against Dunkerque (2-1) allowed the Verts to regain a three-point lead in the promotion race, but the success was overshadowed by two major physical concerns: Augustine Boakye’s injury and Gautier Larsonneur’s health at the end of the match.
In a generally controlled match, ASSE secured the win thanks to goals from Lucas Stassin and Zuriko Davitashvili. An important victory in a tense end to the season where every point matters in the promotion battle. But this evening left a slightly bitter taste in the St. Etienne camp.
Updates on Boakye and Larsonneur
Substituted early in the second half, Augustine Boakye immediately raised concerns from the medical staff. “Augustine Boakye was injured in the adductor area. We have to wait until tomorrow and see the test results. I hope it’s just a muscle strain or a minor injury. We will know more with the test results,” Philippe Montanier said in statements reported by EVECT.
Another moment of concern: Gautier Larsonneur, who remained on the ground in stoppage time after an aerial challenge, also drew attention from the staff as he had just returned from injury. However, the diagnosis is slightly more reassuring than Boakye’s: “He’s still struggling with his thigh, the repetition of shots can bother him but it should get better. At the end of the match, he made a clearance with his hand that went to the midfield line, showing that there are always tricks,” the former RC Lens coach reported.
A tense final sprint for the Verts
If the victory against Dunkerque allows the St. Etienne team to remain firmly positioned in the promotion race, these new physical setbacks, involving two starters, will need to be closely monitored.
ASSE will now have to wait for the medical results of these two key players to determine if these alerts are just temporary or more concerning in a season finale that is bringing the Verts closer than ever to Ligue 1.
