On Saturday, April 4, members of AS Sarrey-Montigny gathered for an extraordinary general assembly at the salle des Eyrotte to finalize a major governance change. Following the departure of president Damien Couturier after sixteen years in office, the club adopted an unprecedented co-presidency to ensure its future.
After sixteen years at the helm of the club, Damien Couturier began the session with a candid moral report. While proudly highlighting the association’s constant progress since 2009, he did not shy away from the challenges: constant dedication, daily behind-the-scenes work, and the demand for total availability.
The president expressed a certain “fed-up” feeling with a heavy sense of isolation in leadership and the increasing dissatisfaction of some members, pointing out a trend towards “consumption” rather than engagement. A bitter observation shared with an audience of senior players and active members, but marked by the unfortunate absence of parents and female members.
An innovative solution was proposed by Damien Couturier to prevent the club from facing a deadlock, suggesting a solid alternative to ensure the structure’s sustainability. The assembly unanimously approved the transition to a three-pillar co-presidency system. This new board, consisting of 18 members, introduces a trio of young leaders: Théo Chouffot for administrative and financial matters, Benjamin Humbert for infrastructure and equipment, and Sacha Couturier for sports.
This organization will be officially formalized administratively at the next board meeting. Jean Vautrin, treasurer, and Maxime Couturier, secretary, witnessed this transition marking the end of an era and the beginning of collaborative operation. The new board now calls on all volunteers to rally behind this team for the rest of the season.
Despite the seriousness of the discussions, the evening concluded in the camaraderie spirit of the association. Players in cleats gathered at the Henri-Grandvuillemin stadium for an informal debrief, celebrating the future of the club in their favorite place.
