The FC Metz won 3-0 against Le Mans FC on Sunday in Frescaty. The team finally emerged from a long negative streak and the battle for survival in the Second League is now in full swing.
The Metz team savored victory once again! FC Metz (11th) faced Le Mans FC (4th) on Sunday in the eighteenth round of the Second League. This was an important match for Coach Marine Morel and her players, who were in desperate need of points. After the club slipped into the relegation zone a few days ago, the women from Moselle had no choice but to get a result against Le Mans FC. Especially because Rodez, just ahead in the standings, could have widened the gap with their victory over Guingamp (1-2).
A strong start to the match saw the Metz women break free from the trap of the eighteenth round. They had a great start to the game, showing a completely different side. Anais Ribeyra scored the opening goal of the match (1-0, 25′). Metz then took advantage of their dominant period to increase the score. Maria Fodil capitalized on a haphazard clearance by the visitors to send a soaring shot past the Mans goalkeeper (2-0, 29′). A sigh of relief for the Metz players who celebrated joyously after the second goal. Le Mans FC failed to narrow the gap before halftime, allowing FC Metz to go into the break with a two-goal lead.
Returning for the second half with confidence, the Messines did not let up. Again from a corner, Maud Antoine took advantage of a defensive mix-up to head the ball to Clara Petitjean who scored the third goal for Metz (3-0, 50′). In less than an hour, FC Metz sealed the match, leaving no hope for Le Mans FC. The players under Marine Morel’s leadership expertly closed out the game by keeping a clean sheet.
A 3-0 victory for Metz that ended a long negative streak. They had not won in the league since December 7th, even losing to Le Mans FC (1-2). Despite this victory, the Moselle team remains in the relegation zone due to Rodez’s result. Only two points separate the two clubs now, making the battle for survival exciting. With four matches remaining, FC Metz has four final chances to secure their place in the Second League. They will start with an away game against Stade de Reims on Saturday, April 25th, to see if this home win can help the Messines turn things around and secure a second consecutive victory.
