The Mondeville basketball players were fighting for their qualification in a decisive match on Wednesday, April 1, against Aulnoye in the penultimate round of Ligue 2. They did not falter when defending the 8th and final qualifying spot for the playoffs. USO Mondeville secured a 77-61 victory with authority, only allowing their opponent to lead long enough to score the first basket of the game. “With authority, I don’t know, but with energy,” corrected Mondeville coach Morgan Debrosse. “I think we put in a lot of energy. Naturally, it was a tense match. The atmosphere was a bit stifling. We struggled at times to free ourselves and let go, but in our offensive intention, from start to finish, we were there. That’s what I asked for before the match. If we lose, we lose with our heads held high, and the team is very proud. And today, this pride and determination not to give up allowed us to qualify for the playoffs. So congratulations and proud of the group.”
There is one final match to play this Saturday against Strasbourg to close out the regular season and also determine Mondeville’s future opponent in the playoffs. One thing is certain, the first game will be played at the Halle Bérégovoy on April 11, and the return match will be at the opponent’s venue on the 18th.
